It’s a first generation (milled receiver) Ruger 77, and has been in the safe since 1996. We’re gonna try and put it to use.
Many years ago, I bought 1000 - 130 grain “blem” bullets, presently the rifle is wearing a 3-9 Burris. A few years ago I picked-up a Leupold VX3 6-25 (30 mm tube) scope. I just bought 2 sets (1” and 30 mm) Weaver Grand Slam Lever-Loc rings, will soon order a Weigand picitinny base. The two scopes, zero’d and ready to hunt, should cover any terrain we’re likely to hunt! I’ve got a bunch of RL 17 powder to work with, and should work pretty well!
It should make a good varmint gun, up to and through wolves! Looks like a good summer project! memtb

Heck people are even using whimpier cartridges than the 270 now or isn't coming out of the closet what I thought you meant.

I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

Well, as the 270 is considered “gay” be many on the “fire”, it seemed “coming out of the closet” seemed appropriate! It just happened to be a steel closet! memtb

Put that Ruger to use man!
54gr RL17 under a 130 is fast, mean and accurate.

gunnut308, Thanks for the load tip! MagMarc, I only have 130’s, maybe I can line them hogs up and do 2 at a time! I only foresee one problem......I’m not used to handling them little tiny bullets! memtb

No, no my son...you have to go INTO the closet. That's where they all live, but if you want a really good one you'll have to learn a foreign language.

Hard to beat 55 gr of IMR4350 behind a 130 NBT. That combo has filled my freezer more than a few times.
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

I got a Winchester Model 70, .270, in a trade awhile back. I have a a 6x SWFA scope on it and am doing some load work with it. I can't find one that it won't shoot. I have 130 Sierra blems and some Speer 130 spbt. They all shoot well. It shoots Hornady Whitetail ammo 130) incredibly well. I keep telling my wife that I want to sell it, but I have a hard time parting with it. I also shot some Corlokt 150s and it did well.
I shot the first five does this summer doing depredation work, using this rifle. All drt. The .270 loves the IMR and H 4831 powders, plus a lot more. If you want to chase speed in the heavier bullets, Reloder 26 does outstanding-if you can find some.
You did not "seen" anything, you "saw" it. A "creek" has water in it, a "crick" is what you get in your neck. Liberals with guns are nothing but hypocrites.

I have 3 270 rifles all are fine shooters. 3 in a ragged hole shooters to be exact. Most of my shooting is a less than 150 yards so I don't usually hunt them, a shame.

R17 works very well with 130’s. I use 52.5. Was so fast and accurate that I never went to 54.

Load up RL26 and a 150 Partition or NBT and kill anything in North America. My Rifle prefers 59.5gr and was 2988fps and 1 ragged hole at 100yds.

It’s only gonna be used as a varmint, maybe some large varmints, rifle! I also have a boat-load of 130 grain blem bullets that need to be used, I figured it would be a good, low recoil, off season plinker/varmint rifle.....rather than using our hunting rifles! memtb

That was the first barrel I ever shot out. Jackrabbits and coyotes along with a truck load of Mule deer.

I bring my old original Browning Stainless Stalker in .270 after the regular season in over and it's time to work over the hogs and feral barbado sheep. I shoot the 140 gr. Hornady BTSP pushed by 53.2 grains of IMR 4350 and a CCI 200 primer. It gives me sub MOA groups and thumps the schitt out of everything it hits. I'm down to the last of the 140's so I'll go back to the Speer 130 grain Grand Slam and 55.0 gr of IMR 4350 and the CCI 200 as soon as I run out of 140's. The problem is, everyone is out of the Grand Slams so I'm being pretty stingy with the 140's.
The lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part!
